So ¹  he called out, ²  ‘Father Abraham, have mercy on me, and send Lazarus ³  to dip the tip of his finger ⁴  in water and cool my tongue, because I am in anguish ⁵  in this fire.’ ⁶ 

The truly wise person ¹  restrains ²  his words, and the one who stays calm ³  is discerning.

You, whose garments are hot when the earth is still because of the south wind,

The lotus trees conceal it in their ¹  shadow; the poplars by the stream conceal it.

Each of them ¹  will be like a shelter from the wind and a refuge from a rainstorm; like streams of water in a dry region and like the shade of a large cliff in a parched land.

Protect me as you would protect the pupil of your eye! ¹  Hide me in the shadow of your wings! ² 

Do not be angry and frustrated! ¹  Do not fret! That only leads to trouble!

How long will this go on, O Lord? ¹  Will you stay angry forever? How long will your rage ²  burn like fire?

He spread out a cloud for a cover, ¹  and provided a fire to light up the night.

who turned a rock into a pool of water, a hard rock into springs of water! ¹ 

The one who puts up security for a stranger ¹  will surely have trouble, ²  but whoever avoids ³  shaking hands ⁴  will be secure.

Like cold water to a weary person, ¹  so is good news from a distant land. ² 

Even when an army is deployed against me, I do not fear. ¹  Even when war is imminent, ²  I remain confident. ³
