As a mother consoles a child, ¹  so I will console you, and you will be consoled over Jerusalem.”

But God, who encourages ¹  the downhearted, encouraged ²  us by the arrival of Titus.

I chose ¹  the way for them ²  and sat as their chief; ³  I lived like a king among his troops; I was like one who comforts mourners. ⁴ 

When worries threaten to overwhelm me, ¹  your soothing touch makes me happy. ² 

“I, I am the one who consoles you. ¹  Why are you afraid of mortal men, of mere human beings who are as short-lived as grass? ² 

who comforts us in all our troubles ¹  so that we may be able to comfort those experiencing any trouble ²  with the comfort with which we ourselves are comforted by God.

This ¹  is what comforts me in my trouble, for your promise revives me. ² 

Are God’s consolations ¹  too trivial for you; ²  or a word spoken ³  in gentleness to you?

When Rebekah heard what her older son Esau had said, ¹  she quickly summoned ²  her younger son Jacob and told him, “Look, your brother Esau is planning to get revenge by killing you. ³ 

I have seen their behavior, ¹  but I will heal them and give them rest, and I will once again console those who mourn. ² 

She brings him ¹  good and not evil ²  all the days of her life.

Take your share of suffering ¹  as a good soldier of Christ Jesus.

פ (Pe) Zion spread out her hands, but there is no one to comfort her. The Lord has issued a decree against Jacob; his neighbors ¹  have become his enemies. Jerusalem has become like filthy garbage ²  in their midst. ³ 

Any man who prays or prophesies with his head covered disgraces his head.

Do not neglect hospitality, because through it some have entertained angels without knowing it. ¹ 

At that time ¹  you will say: “I praise you, O Lord, for even though you were angry with me, your anger subsided, and you consoled me.

But any woman who prays or prophesies with her head uncovered disgraces her head, for it is one and the same thing as having a shaved head.

Blessed is ¹  the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of mercies and God of all comfort,

Certainly the Lord will console Zion; he will console all her ruins. He will make her wilderness like Eden, her desert like the Garden of the Lord. Happiness and joy will be restored to ¹  her, thanksgiving and the sound of music.

Shout for joy, O sky! ¹  Rejoice, O earth! Let the mountains give a joyful shout! For the Lord consoles his people and shows compassion to the ²  oppressed.
