Then the Lord provoked ¹  their adversaries to attack them, ²  he stirred up ³  their enemies –

For a short time your special ¹  nation possessed a land, ²  but then our adversaries knocked down ³  your holy sanctuary.

Lift your hand triumphantly against your adversaries; ¹  may all your enemies be destroyed! ² 

The water covered their enemies; not even one of them survived. ¹ 

because a door of great opportunity stands wide open for me, ¹  but there are many opponents.

He drove his enemies back; he made them a permanent target for insults. ¹ 

Fire goes before him; on every side ¹  it burns up his enemies.

He repays them for what they have done, dispensing angry judgment to his adversaries and punishing his enemies. ¹  He repays the coastlands. ²

but only a certain fearful expectation of judgment and a fury ¹  of fire that will consume God’s enemies. ² 

‘Surely our enemies ¹  are destroyed, and fire consumes their wealth.’

They repay me evil for the good I have done; though I have tried to do good to them, they hurl accusations at me. ¹ 

You know how I am insulted, humiliated and disgraced; you can see all my enemies. ¹ 

Do not disregard ¹  what your enemies say, ²  or the unceasing shouts of those who defy you. ³ 

You have allowed his adversaries to be victorious, ¹  and all his enemies to rejoice.
