Wisdom is supreme ¹  – so ²  acquire wisdom, and whatever you acquire, ³  acquire understanding! ⁴ 

(Let the wise also ¹  hear ²  and gain ³  instruction, and let the discerning ⁴  acquire ⁵  guidance! ⁶ )

Acquire wisdom, acquire understanding; do not forget and do not turn aside from the words I speak. ¹ 

You may live ¹  among us, and the land will be open to you. ²  Live in it, travel freely in it, ³  and acquire property in it.”

Furthermore, he must not marry many ¹  wives lest his affections turn aside, and he must not accumulate much silver and gold.

“‘As for your male and female slaves ¹  who may belong to you – you may buy male and female slaves from the nations all around you. ² 

I gave myself to the work on this wall, without even purchasing ¹  a field. All my associates were gathered there for the work.

in order to safeguard ¹  discretion, ²  and that your lips may guard knowledge.

You who are naive, discern ¹  wisdom! And you fools, understand discernment! ² 

The naive inherit ¹  folly, but the shrewd ²  are crowned ³  with knowledge.

Do not wear yourself out to become rich; be wise enough to restrain yourself. ¹ 

Acquire ¹  truth and do not sell it – wisdom, and discipline, and understanding.

From the fruit of his speech ¹  a person eats good things, ²  but the faithless ³  desire ⁴  the fruit of violence. ⁵
