Lord, we confess that we have been wicked. We confess that our ancestors have done wrong. ¹  We have indeed ²  sinned against you.

That day Isaac’s servants came and told him about the well they had dug. “We’ve found water,” they reported. ¹ 

We have sinned like ¹  our ancestors; ²  we have done wrong, we have done evil.

Panic and pitfall ¹  have come upon us, devastation and destruction. ² 

¹ O Lord, reflect on ²  what has happened to us; consider ³  and look at ⁴  our disgrace.

“Are you the one who is to come, ¹  or should we look for another?”

we are persecuted, but not abandoned; ¹  we are knocked down, ²  but not destroyed,

They are ready to devour me; ¹  they say, “Aha! Aha! We’ve got you!” ² 

We have lived in tents. We have obeyed our ancestor Jonadab and done exactly as he commanded us. ¹ 

Therefore we are sending ¹  Judas and Silas ²  who will tell you these things themselves in person. ³ 

When your people ¹  come to their senses ²  in the land where they are held prisoner, they will repent and beg for your mercy in the land of their imprisonment, admitting, ‘We have sinned and gone astray; ³  we have done evil.’

Then I said, ¹  “O Lord, intervene for the honor of your name ²  even though our sins speak out against us. ³  Indeed, ⁴  we have turned away from you many times. We have sinned against you.

O Lord, our God, masters other than you have ruled us, but we praise your name alone.

Simon ¹  answered, ²  “Master, ³  we worked hard all night and caught nothing! But at your word ⁴  I will lower ⁵  the nets.”

and sent them to Jesus ¹  to ask, ²  “Are you the one who is to come, ³  or should we look for another?”

For if we deliberately keep on sinning after receiving the knowledge of the truth, no further sacrifice for sins is left for us, ¹ 

But they exclaimed, ¹  “No, my lord! Your servants have come to buy grain for food!

“Surely ²  there is a mine ³  for silver, and a place where gold is refined. ⁴ 

Destruction ¹  and Death say, ‘With our ears we have heard a rumor about where it can be found.’ ²
