So when the Samaritans came to him, they began asking ¹  him to stay with them. ²  He stayed there two days,

Now many Samaritans from that town believed in him because of the report of the woman who testified, ¹  “He told me everything I ever did.”

Jesus sent out these twelve, instructing them as follows: ¹  “Do not go to Gentile regions ²  and do not enter any Samaritan town. ³ 

So the Samaritan woman said to him, “How can you – a Jew ¹  – ask me, a Samaritan woman, for water ²  to drink?” (For Jews use nothing in common ³  with Samaritans.) ⁴ 

He ¹  sent messengers on ahead of him. ²  As they went along, ³  they entered a Samaritan village to make things ready in advance ⁴  for him,

So after Peter and John ¹  had solemnly testified ²  and spoken the word of the Lord, ³  they started back to Jerusalem, proclaiming ⁴  the good news to many Samaritan villages ⁵  as they went. ⁶ 

But each of these nations made ¹  its own gods and put them in the shrines on the high places that the people of Samaria ²  had made. Each nation did this in the cities where they lived.

You people ¹  worship what you do not know. We worship what we know, because salvation is from the Jews. ² 

These two ¹  went down and prayed for them so that they would receive the Holy Spirit.

Then Peter and John placed their hands on the Samaritans, ¹  and they received the Holy Spirit. ² 

Then the local people ¹  began to discourage ²  the people of Judah and to dishearten them from building.

Rehum the commander ¹  and Shimshai the scribe ²  wrote a letter concerning ³  Jerusalem to King Artaxerxes as follows:

but the villagers ¹  refused to welcome ²  him, because he was determined to go to Jerusalem. ³ 

When the enemies of Judah and Benjamin learned that the former exiles ¹  were building a temple for the Lord God of Israel,

¹ At the beginning of the reign of Ahasuerus ²  they filed an accusation against the inhabitants of Judah and Jerusalem. ³ 

Our fathers worshiped on this mountain, ¹  and you people ²  say that the place where people must worship is in Jerusalem.” ³ 

Jesus said to her, “Believe me, woman, ¹  a time ²  is coming when you will worship ³  the Father neither on this mountain nor in Jerusalem.

Now in that city was a man named Simon, who had been practicing magic ¹  and amazing the people of Samaria, claiming to be someone great.
