for their Protector ¹  is strong; he will plead their case against you. ² 

Fight for me ¹  and defend me! ²  Revive me with your word!

Learn to do what is right! Promote justice! Give the oppressed reason to celebrate! ¹  Take up the cause of the orphan! Defend the rights of the widow! ² 

for the Lord will plead their case ¹  and will rob those who are robbing ²  them.

There is no one to plead your cause. There are no remedies for your wounds. ¹  There is no healing for you.

If indeed ¹  you would exalt yourselves ²  above me and plead my disgrace against me, ³ 

Plead earnestly ¹  with your ²  mother (for ³  she is not my wife, and I am not her husband), so that ⁴  she might put an end to her adulterous lifestyle, ⁵  and turn away from her sexually immoral behavior. ⁶

Open your mouth, judge in righteousness, ¹  and plead the cause ²  of the poor and needy.

Vindicate me, O God! Fight for me ²  against an ungodly nation! Deliver me ³  from deceitful and evil men! ⁴ 

But the one who will rescue them ¹  is strong. He is known as the Lord who rules over all. ²  He will strongly ³  champion their cause. As a result ⁴  he will bring peace and rest to the earth, but trouble and turmoil ⁵  to the people who inhabit Babylonia. ⁶
