Daniel, Ginnethon, Baruch,

Then in a night vision the mystery was revealed to Daniel. So Daniel praised ¹  the God of heaven,

Daniel then spoke to the warden ¹  whom the overseer of the court officials had appointed over Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah:

So Daniel was brought in before the king. The king said to Daniel, “Are you that Daniel who is one of the captives of Judah, whom my father the king brought from Judah?

Look, you are wiser than Daniel; ¹  no secret is hidden from you. ² 

As it turned out, ¹  among these young men ²  were some from Judah: ³  Daniel, Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah. ⁴ 

Then God made the overseer of the court officials sympathetic to Daniel. ¹ 

Now Daniel lived on until the first ¹  year of Cyrus the king.

Then Daniel spoke to ¹  the king, “O king, live forever!

In those days I, Daniel, was mourning for three whole weeks. ¹ 

And at Daniel’s request, the king ¹  appointed Shadrach, Meshach, and Abednego over the administration of the province of Babylon. Daniel himself served in the king’s court. ²

Then Daniel went to his home and informed his friends Hananiah, Mishael, and Azariah of the matter.

So this Daniel prospered during the reign of Darius and ¹  the reign of Cyrus the Persian.

“As for me, Daniel, my spirit was distressed, ¹  and the visions of my mind ²  were alarming me.

So the king gave the order, ¹  and Daniel was brought and thrown into a den ²  of lions. The king consoled ³  Daniel by saying, “Your God whom you continually serve will rescue you!”

Then those officials who had gone to the king ¹  came by collusion and found Daniel praying and asking for help before his God.

Then King Nebuchadnezzar bowed down with his face to the ground ¹  and paid homage to Daniel. He gave orders to offer sacrifice and incense to him.

As he approached the den, he called out to Daniel in a worried voice, ¹  “Daniel, servant of the living God, was your God whom you continually serve able to rescue you from the lions?”

“So when you see the abomination of desolation ¹  – spoken about by Daniel the prophet – standing in the holy place (let the reader understand),
