The one who guards his mouth and his tongue ¹  keeps his life ²  from troubles. ³ 

Then I said to the people of Judah, ¹  “Listen and pay attention! Do not be arrogant! For the Lord has spoken.

Gedaliah, the son of Ahikam and grandson of Shaphan, took an oath so as to give them and their troops some assurance of safety. ¹  “Do not be afraid to submit to the Babylonians. ²  Settle down in the land and submit to the king of Babylon. Then things will go well for you.

‘If you will just stay ¹  in this land, I will build you up. I will not tear you down. I will firmly plant you. ²  I will not uproot you. For I am filled with sorrow because of the disaster that I have brought on you.

All the inhabitants of the earth are regarded as nothing. ¹  He does as he wishes with the army of heaven and with those who inhabit the earth. No one slaps ²  his hand and says to him, ‘What have you done?’

But the person who endures to the end will be saved. ¹ 

“Get dressed for service ¹  and keep your lamps burning; ² 

After the two days he departed from there to Galilee.

Then the Spirit said to Philip, “Go over and join this chariot.”

Let each one remain in that situation in life ¹  in which he was called.

Stay alert, stand firm in the faith, show courage, be strong.

Nevertheless, let us live up to the standard ¹  that we have already attained. ² 

Be devoted to prayer, keeping alert in it with thanksgiving.

Until I come, give attention to the public reading of scripture, ¹  to exhortation, to teaching.

But avoid profane chatter, ¹  because those occupied with it will stray further and further into ungodliness, ² 

Show hospitality ¹  to one another without complaining.

Is not the whole land before you? Separate yourself now from me. If you go ¹  to the left, then I’ll go to the right, but if you go to the right, then I’ll go to the left.”

And let me get ¹  a bit of food ²  so that you may refresh yourselves ³  since you have passed by your servant’s home. After that you may be on your way.” ⁴  “All right,” they replied, “you may do as you say.”

You must also do this for your oxen and for your sheep; seven days they may remain with their mothers, but give them to me on the eighth day.

¹ The Lord said to Moses, “Come up to me to the mountain and remain there, and I will give you the stone tablets ²  with ³  the law and the commandments that I have written, so that you may teach them.” ⁴
