After Josiah had done all this for the temple, ¹  King Necho of Egypt marched up to do battle at Carchemish on the Euphrates River. ²  Josiah marched out to oppose him.

The land of Egypt will become a desolate ruin. Then they will know that I am the Lord. Because he said, “The Nile is mine and I made it,”

They traveled from Almon-diblathaim and camped in the mountains of Abarim before Nebo.

“Speak to the Israelites and tell them, ‘When you cross over the Jordan River ¹  into the land of Canaan,

Their territory extended ¹  from Aroer at the edge of the Arnon valley as far as Mount Siyon ²  – that is, Hermon –

The king and all the people who were with him arrived exhausted at their destination, where David ¹  refreshed himself.

Meanwhile David had gone to Mahanaim, while Absalom and all the men of Israel had crossed the Jordan River.

“Leave here and travel eastward. Hide out in the Kerith Valley near the Jordan.

Now ¹  in those days Jesus came from Nazareth ²  in Galilee and was baptized by John in the Jordan River. ³ 

Then ¹  Jesus, full of the Holy Spirit, returned from the Jordan River ²  and was led by the Spirit ³  in ⁴  the wilderness, ⁵ 

Jesus ¹  went back across the Jordan River ²  again to the place where John ³  had been baptizing at an earlier time, ⁴  and he stayed there.

But when she was no longer able to hide him, she took a papyrus basket ¹  for him and sealed it with bitumen and pitch. She put the child in it and set it among the reeds along the edge of the Nile. ² 

The Nile will swarm ¹  with frogs, and they will come up and go into your house, in your bedroom, and on your bed, and into the houses of your servants and your people, and into your ovens and your kneading troughs. ² 

Tell them, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says: “‘Look, I am against ¹  you, Pharaoh king of Egypt, the great monster ²  lying in the midst of its waterways, who has said, “My Nile is my own, I made it for myself.” ³ 

I looked up ¹  and saw ²  a ³  ram with two horns standing at the canal. Its two horns were both long, ⁴  but one was longer than the other. The longer one was coming up after the shorter one.

The Lord said to Moses, “Go over before the people; ¹  take with you some of the elders of Israel and take in your hand your staff with which you struck the Nile and go.

For Heshbon was the city of King Sihon of the Amorites. Now he had fought against the former king of Moab and had taken all of his land from his control, ¹  as far as the Arnon.

These are the commandments and the decisions that the Lord commanded the Israelites through the authority ¹  of Moses, on the plains of Moab by the Jordan River ²  opposite Jericho. ³ 

This is what ¹  Moses said to the assembly of Israel ²  in the Transjordanian ³  wastelands, the arid country opposite ⁴  Suph, ⁵  between ⁶  Paran ⁷  and Tophel, ⁸  Laban, ⁹  Hazeroth, and Di Zahab

So at that time we took the land of the two Amorite kings in the Transjordan from Wadi Arnon to Mount Hermon ¹
