“The Lord who rules over all said, ‘Exercise true judgment and show brotherhood and compassion to each other.

“I ¹  will come to you in judgment. I will be quick to testify against those who practice divination, those who commit adultery, those who break promises, ²  and those who exploit workers, widows, and orphans, ³  who refuse to help ⁴  the immigrant ⁵  and in this way show they do not fear me,” says the Lord who rules over all.

For by the standard you judge you will be judged, and the measure you use will be the measure you receive. ¹ 

So after they came back here with me, ¹  I did not postpone the case, ²  but the next day I sat ³  on the judgment seat ⁴  and ordered the man to be brought.

With regard to the question about people who have never married, ¹  I have no command from the Lord, but I give my opinion as one shown mercy by the Lord to be trustworthy.

(Rejoice over her, O heaven, and you saints and apostles and prophets, for God has pronounced judgment ¹  against her on your behalf!) ² 

“You must not turn away justice for your poor people in their lawsuits.

Does God pervert ¹  justice? ²  Or does the Almighty pervert ³  what is right?

Then he will judge ¹  your people fairly, and your oppressed ones ²  equitably.

For God is the judge! ¹  He brings one down and exalts another. ² 

Phinehas took a stand and intervened, ¹  and the plague subsided.

To receive ¹  moral instruction ²  in skillful living, ³  in ⁴  righteousness, ⁵  justice, ⁶  and equity. ⁷ 

Wealth does not profit in the day of wrath, ¹  but righteousness delivers from mortal danger. ² 

A king brings stability ¹  to a land ²  by justice, but one who exacts tribute ³  tears it down.

They will attack ¹  you with weapons, ²  chariots, wagons, and with a huge army; ³  they will array themselves against you on every side with large shields, small shields, and helmets. I will assign them the task of judgment; ⁴  they will punish you according to their laws.

Then I will gather all the nations, and bring them down to the valley of Jehoshaphat. ¹  I will enter into judgment ²  against them there concerning my people Israel who are my inheritance, ³  whom they scattered among the nations. They partitioned my land,

But if we examined ourselves, we would not be judged.

and so incur judgment for breaking their former pledge. ¹ 

You must appoint judges and civil servants ¹  for each tribe in all your villages ²  that the Lord your God is giving you, and they must judge the people fairly. ³
