Sure enough, the next morning, at the time of the morning sacrifice, water came flowing down from Edom and filled the land. ¹ 

It stands still, ¹  but I cannot recognize ²  its appearance; an image is before my eyes, and I hear a murmuring voice: ³ 

He shouted at ¹  the Red Sea and it dried up; he led them through the deep water as if it were a desert.

The Beloved about Her Lover: All night long ¹  on my bed ²  I longed for ³  my lover. ⁴  I longed for ⁵  him but he never appeared. ⁶ 

At that time the Babylonian forces ¹  had temporarily given up their siege against Jerusalem. ²  They had had it under siege, but withdrew when they heard that the army of Pharaoh had set out from Egypt. ³ )

After this the angelic messenger ¹  who had been speaking to me went out and said, “Look, see what is leaving.”

And a leper ¹  approached, and bowed low before him, saying, ²  “Lord, if ³  you are willing, you can make me clean.”

Then ¹  a cloud ²  overshadowed them, ³  and a voice came from the cloud, “This is my one dear Son. ⁴  Listen to him!” ⁵ 

It shrieked, threw him into terrible convulsions, and came out. The boy ¹  looked so much like a corpse that many said, “He is dead!”

As ¹  he was saying this, a cloud ²  came ³  and overshadowed ⁴  them, and they were afraid as they entered the cloud.

and a woman was there ¹  who had been disabled by a spirit ²  for eighteen years. She ³  was bent over and could not straighten herself up completely. ⁴ 

Then they told what had happened on the road, ¹  and how they recognized him ²  when he broke the bread.

Early in the morning he came to the temple courts again. All the people came to him, and he sat down and began to teach ¹  them.

As ¹  they were still staring into the sky while he was going, suddenly ²  two men in white clothing stood near them

Philip, however, found himself ¹  at Azotus, ²  and as he passed through the area, ³  he proclaimed the good news ⁴  to all the towns ⁵  until he came to Caesarea. ⁶ 

When he arrived, the Jews who had come down from Jerusalem stood around him, ¹  bringing many serious ²  charges that they were not able to prove. ³ 

He humbled himself, by becoming obedient to the point of death – even death on a cross!

For we never appeared ¹  with flattering speech, as you know, nor with a pretext for greed – God is our witness –

At my first defense no one appeared in my support; instead they all deserted me – may they not be held accountable for it.

The Holy Spirit is making clear that the way into the holy place had not yet appeared as long as the old tabernacle ¹  was standing.
