When someone comes to visit, ¹  he pretends to be friendly; ²  he thinks of ways to defame me, ³  and when he leaves he slanders me. ⁴ 

The one who increases his wealth by increasing interest ¹  gathers it for someone who is gracious ²  to the needy.

Is there anything about which someone can say, “Look at this! It is new!”? ¹  It was already ²  done long ago, ³  before our time. ⁴ 

Or when they hand the scroll to one who can’t read ¹  and say, “Read this,” he says, “I can’t read.” ² 

While I, Daniel, was watching the vision, I sought to understand it. Now one who appeared to be a man was standing before me.

But I say to you, do not resist the evildoer. ¹  But whoever strikes you on the ²  right cheek, turn the other to him as well.

A member of the crowd said to him, “Teacher, I brought you my son, who is possessed by a spirit that makes him mute.

“Everyone who comes to me and listens to my words and puts them into practice ¹  – I will show you what he is like:

“Everyone who divorces his wife and marries ¹  someone else commits adultery, and the one who marries a woman divorced from her husband commits adultery.

And after about an hour still another insisted, ¹  “Certainly this man was with him, because he too is a Galilean.” ² 

If someone’s work is burned up, he will suffer loss. ¹  He himself will be saved, but only as through fire.

so that we may preach the gospel in the regions that lie beyond you, and not boast of work already done in another person’s area.

For if someone merely listens to the message and does not live it out, he is like someone ¹  who gazes at his own face ²  in a mirror.

For if someone ¹  comes into your assembly ²  wearing a gold ring and fine clothing, and a poor person enters in filthy clothes,

The one who says “I have come to know God” ¹  and yet does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in such a person.

“Whoever strikes ¹  his father or his mother must surely be put to death.

“Whoever treats his father or his mother disgracefully ¹  must surely be put to death.

and you must not show partiality ¹  to a poor man in his lawsuit.

Suppose he goes with someone else ¹  to the forest to cut wood and when he raises the ax ²  to cut the tree, the ax head flies loose ³  from the handle and strikes ⁴  his fellow worker ⁵  so hard that he dies. The person responsible ⁶  may then flee to one of these cities to save himself. ⁷ 

When she has left him ¹  she may go and become someone else’s wife.
