Solomon did evil in the Lord’s sight; ¹  he did not remain loyal to ²  the Lord, like his father David had.

He did evil in the sight of ¹  the Lord; he did not repudiate ²  the sinful ways of Jeroboam son of Nebat who encouraged Israel to sin.

But they did not pay attention and were as stubborn as their ancestors, ¹  who had not trusted the Lord their God.

Judah also failed to keep the commandments of the Lord their God; they followed Israel’s example. ¹ 

He did evil in the sight of ¹  the Lord his God. He did not humble himself before Jeremiah the prophet, the Lord’s spokesman.
