He does whatever he pleases in heaven and on earth, in the seas and all the ocean depths.

The ¹  hand of the Lord was with them, and a great number who believed ²  turned ³  to the Lord.

Simeon ¹  has explained ²  how God first concerned himself ³  to select ⁴  from among the Gentiles ⁵  a people for his name.

So I boast ¹  in Christ Jesus about the things that pertain to God.

He did this by predestining ¹  us to adoption as his ²  sons ³  through Jesus Christ, according to the pleasure ⁴  of his will –

For this finds God’s favor, ¹  if because of conscience toward God ²  someone endures hardships in suffering unjustly.

But Aaron spoke to Moses, “See here! ¹  Just today they presented their sin offering and their burnt offering before the Lord and such things as these have happened to me! If I had eaten a sin offering today would the Lord have been pleased?” ² 

but with Cain and his offering he was not pleased. ¹  So Cain became very angry, ²  and his expression was downcast. ³ 

Gideon ¹  said to him, “If you really are pleased with me, ²  then give me ³  a sign as proof that it is really you speaking with me.

But this request displeased Samuel, for ¹  they said, “Give us a king to lead us.” So Samuel prayed to the Lord.

Then Absalom went to the king and said, “My shearers have begun their work. ¹  Let the king and his servants go with me.”

I, the servant of my lord ¹  the king, give it all to the king!” Araunah also told the king, “May the Lord your God show you favor!”

Pharaoh liked Hadad so well ¹  he gave him his sister-in-law (Queen Tahpenes’ sister) as a wife. ² 

Throughout his lifetime Jehoash did what the Lord approved, ¹  just as ²  Jehoiada the priest taught him.

Then let the trees of the forest shout with joy before the Lord, for he comes to judge the earth!

All the officials and all the people gladly brought their silver and threw it into the chest until it was full.

So now be very sure of this: You will die from war, starvation, or disease in the place where you want to go and live.”

But Babylonia will be put to great shame. The land where you were born ¹  will be disgraced. Indeed, ²  Babylonia will become the least important of all nations. It will become a dry and barren desert.
