When he arrived in Lehi, the Philistines shouted as they approached him. But the Lord’s spirit empowered ¹  him. The ropes around his arms were like flax dissolving in ²  fire, and they ³  melted away from his hands.

He looked for Ahaziah, who was captured while hiding in Samaria. ¹  They brought him to Jehu and then executed him. They did give him a burial, for they reasoned, ²  “He is the son of Jehoshaphat, who sought the Lord with his whole heart.” There was no one in Ahaziah’s family strong enough to rule in his place. ³ 

If the stolen item should in fact be found ¹  alive in his possession, ²  whether it be an ox or a donkey or a sheep, he must pay back double. ³ 

The spoil that remained of the plunder which the fighting men ¹  had gathered ²  was 675,000 sheep,

The Philistines stayed right on the heels ¹  of Saul and his sons. They ²  struck down Saul’s sons Jonathan, Abinadab, and Malki-Shua.

Let destruction take them by surprise! ¹  Let the net they hid catch them! Let them fall into destruction! ² 

Look, they hurl insults at me and openly threaten to kill me, ¹  for they say, ²  “Who hears?”

You cause those who know me to keep their distance; you make me an appalling sight to them. I am trapped and cannot get free. ¹

When Ephraim ¹  spoke, ²  there was terror; ³  he was exalted ⁴  in Israel, but he became guilty by worshiping Baal and died.

You made people like fish in the sea, like animals in the sea ¹  that have no ruler.
