“‘When they enter the gates of the inner court, they must wear linen garments; they must not have any wool on them when they minister in the inner gates of the court and in the temple.

There will arise after him ¹  one ²  who will send out an exactor ³  of tribute to enhance the splendor of the kingdom, but after a few days he will be destroyed, ⁴  though not in anger or battle.

Make this announcement in ¹  the fortresses of Ashdod and in the fortresses in the land of Egypt. Say this: “Gather on the hills around Samaria! ²  Observe the many acts of violence ³  taking place within the city, ⁴  the oppressive deeds ⁵  occurring in it.” ⁶ 

“He will then make one of the turtledoves ¹  or young pigeons, which are within his means, ² 

In the inner sanctuary he made two cherubs of olive wood; each stood 15 feet ¹  high.

if he retains it for himself and does not let it go, and holds it fast in his mouth, ¹ 

Who can uncover its outer covering? ¹  Who can penetrate to the inside of its armor? ² 

so ¹  he thought to himself, ²  ‘What should I do, for I have nowhere to store my crops?’ ³ 

But now it is no longer me doing it, but sin that lives in me.

Protect that good thing ¹  entrusted to you, through the Holy Spirit who lives within us.

The people ¹  buried him in his allotted land ²  in Timnath Heres in the hill country of Ephraim, north of Mount Gaash.

Then he spoke up in the presence of all the people. “The Lord says, ‘In the same way I will break the yoke of servitude of all the nations to King Nebuchadnezzar of Babylon ¹  before two years are over.’” After he heard this, the prophet Jeremiah departed and went on his way. ² 

They have treated father and mother with contempt ¹  within you; they have oppressed the foreigner among you; they have wronged the orphan and the widow ²  within you.

Her princes ¹  are as fierce as roaring lions; ²  her rulers ³  are as hungry as wolves in the desert, ⁴  who completely devour their prey by morning. ⁵ 

Where do the conflicts and where ¹  do the quarrels among you come from? Is it not from this, ²  from your passions that battle inside you? ³ 

He made framed windows for the temple.

Is ¹  not my power to help myself nothing, and has not every resource ²  been driven from me?

God is in its fortresses; he reveals himself as its defender. ¹ 

We reflect on your loyal love, O God, within your temple.

Disaster is within it; violence ¹  and deceit do not depart from its public square.
