“Do so because my people have committed a double wrong: they have rejected me, the fountain of life-giving water, ¹  and they have dug cisterns for themselves, cracked cisterns which cannot even hold water.”

The servant in charge ¹  brought the men into Joseph’s house. He gave them water, and they washed their feet. Then he gave food to their donkeys.

They said, “An Egyptian man rescued us ¹  from the shepherds, ²  and he actually ³  drew water for us and watered the flock!”

You must serve ¹  the Lord your God, and he ²  will bless your bread and your water, ³  and I will remove sickness from your midst.

“You are to present ¹  Aaron and his sons at the entrance of the tent of meeting. You are to wash ²  them with water

“You are to bring ¹  Aaron and his sons to the entrance of the tent of meeting and wash them with water.

However, a spring or a cistern which collects water ¹  will be clean, but one who touches their carcass will be unclean.

and the one who burns them must wash his clothes and bathe his body in water, and afterward he may reenter the camp.

“‘Then the priest will write these curses on a scroll and then scrape them off into the bitter water. ¹ 

“‘For a ceremonially unclean person you must take ¹  some of the ashes of the heifer ²  burnt for purification from sin and pour ³  fresh running ⁴  water over them in a vessel.

Then Moses raised his hand, and struck the rock twice with his staff. And water came out abundantly. So the community drank, and their beasts drank too.

You may purchase ¹  food to eat and water to drink from them.

Sell me food for cash ¹  so that I can eat and sell me water to drink. ²  Just allow me to go through on foot,

your infants, your wives, and the ¹  foreigners living in your encampment, those who chop wood and those who carry water –

The leaders then added, ¹  “Let them live.” So they became ²  woodcutters and water carriers for the whole community, as the leaders had decided. ³ 

Now you are condemned to perpetual servitude as woodcutters and water carriers for the house of my God.” ¹ 

and the temple servants who were living on Ophel worked ¹  up to the area opposite the Water Gate toward the east and the protruding tower.

You imparted your good Spirit to instruct them. You did not withhold your manna from their mouths; you provided water for their thirst.

Look, the sovereign Lord who commands armies ¹  is about to remove from Jerusalem ²  and Judah every source of security, including ³  all the food and water, ⁴
