He is dragged from the security of his tent, ¹  and marched off ²  to the king ³  of terrors.

O that I knew ¹  where I might find him, ²  that I could come ³  to his place of residence! ⁴ 

There ¹  an upright person could present his case ²  before him, and I would be delivered forever from my judge.

Get ready for a difficult task ¹  like a man; I will question you and you will inform me!

You prove to be reliable ¹  to one who is blameless, but you prove to be deceptive ²  to one who is perverse. ³ 

Take note of the one who has integrity! Observe the godly! ¹  For the one who promotes peace has a future. ² 

You walked through the sea; ¹  you passed through the surging waters, ²  but left no footprints. ³ 

I said, ¹  ‘Listen, my people! I will warn ²  you! O Israel, if only you would obey me! ³ 

I will give you sincere thanks, ¹  when I learn your just regulations.

For this reason I carefully follow all your precepts. ¹  I hate all deceitful actions. ² 

A song of ascents. ²  How blessed is every one of the Lord’s loyal followers, ³  each one who keeps his commands! ⁴ 

For the upright will reside in the land, and those with integrity ¹  will remain in it,

Lest ¹  she should make level the path leading to life, ²  her paths are unstable ³  but she does not know it. ⁴ 

What the righteous desire ¹  leads ²  only to good, but what the wicked hope for ³  leads ⁴  to wrath.

In the path of righteousness there is life, but another path leads to death. ¹ 

The Lord abhors ¹  the way of the wicked, but he loves those ²  who pursue ³  righteousness.

The first to state his case ¹  seems ²  right, until his opponent ³  begins to ⁴  cross-examine him. ⁵ 

A house and wealth are inherited from parents, ¹  but a prudent wife ²  is from the Lord.

A shrewd person ¹  sees danger ²  and hides himself, but the naive keep right on going ³  and suffer for it. ⁴
