Why is light given ¹  to a man ²  whose way is hidden, ³  and whom God has hedged in? ⁴ 

These ten times ¹  you have been reproaching me; ²  you are not ashamed to attack me! ³ 

It is not the aged ¹  who are wise, nor old men who understand what is right.

“Do you think this to be ¹  just: when ²  you say, ‘My right before God.’ ³ 

She is harsh ¹  with her young, as if they were not hers; she is unconcerned about the uselessness of her labor.

For the music director, to be accompanied by wind instruments; ²  a psalm of David. Listen to what I say, ³  Lord! Carefully consider my complaint! ⁴ 

I say to the Lord, “You are the Lord, my only source of well-being.” ¹ 

I said, “During the night I will remember the song I once sang; I will think very carefully.” I tried to make sense of what was happening. ¹ 

Who can really fathom the intensity of your anger? ¹  Your raging fury causes people to fear you. ² 

י (Yod) Your hands made me and formed me. ¹  Give me understanding so that I might learn ²  your commands.

(Let the wise also ¹  hear ²  and gain ³  instruction, and let the discerning ⁴  acquire ⁵  guidance! ⁶ )

To discern ¹  the meaning of ²  a proverb and a parable, ³  the sayings of the wise ⁴  and their ⁵  riddles. ⁶ 

indeed, if ¹  you call out for ²  discernment ³  – raise your voice ⁴  for understanding –

Carrying out a wicked scheme ¹  is enjoyable ²  to a fool, and so is wisdom for the one who has discernment. ³ 

With his speech ¹  the godless person ²  destroys ³  his neighbor, but by knowledge ⁴  the righteous will be delivered.

The one who troubles ¹  his family ²  will inherit nothing, ³  and the fool ⁴  will be a servant to the wise person. ⁵ 

The wisdom of the shrewd person ¹  is to discern ²  his way, but the folly of fools is deception. ³ 

The one who is slow to anger has great understanding, but the one who has a quick temper ¹  exalts ²  folly.

The discerning heart seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly. ¹ 

The one who is wise in heart ¹  is called ²  discerning, and kind speech ³  increases persuasiveness. ⁴
