The Moabites ¹  said, “It’s blood! The kings are totally destroyed! ²  They have struck one another down! Now, Moab, seize the plunder!”

Then Amaziah sent messengers to Jehoash son of Jehoahaz son of Jehu, king of Israel. He said, “Come, let’s meet face to face.” ¹ 

Let’s move the ark of our God back here, ¹  for we did not seek his will ²  throughout Saul’s reign.” ³ 

After that a voice roars; he thunders with an exalted voice, and he does not hold back his lightning bolts ¹  when his voice is heard.

They say to themselves, ¹  “We will oppress all of them.” ²  They burn down all the places where people worship God in the land. ³ 

They say, “Come on, let’s annihilate them so they are no longer a nation! ¹  Then the name of Israel will be remembered no more.”

People will curse ¹  the one who withholds grain, ²  but they will praise ³  the one who sells it. ⁴ 

For he does not think ¹  much about the fleeting ²  days of his life because God keeps him preoccupied ³  with the joy he derives from his activity. ⁴ 

Even when a fool walks along the road he lacks sense, ¹  and shows ²  everyone what a fool he is. ³ 

They say, “Let’s attack Judah, terrorize it, and conquer it. ¹  Then we’ll set up the son of Tabeel as its king.” ² 

The exiles from Judah will say, ¹  ‘The Lord has brought about a great deliverance for us! ²  Come on, let’s go and proclaim in Zion what the Lord our God has done!’

“Come on! Let’s return to the Lord! He himself has torn us to pieces, but he will heal us! He has injured ¹  us, but he will bandage our wounds!

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If then your eye is healthy, ¹  your whole body will be full of light.

The doorkeeper ¹  opens the door ²  for him, ³  and the sheep hear his voice. He ⁴  calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. ⁵ 

and I am glad ¹  for your sake that I was not there, so that you may believe. ²  But let us go to him.”

So Thomas (called Didymus ¹ ) ²  said to his fellow disciples, “Let us go too, so that we may die with him.” ³ 

but said farewell to ¹  them and added, ²  “I will come back ³  to you again if God wills.” ⁴  Then ⁵  he set sail from Ephesus,

With regard to food sacrificed to idols, we know that “we all have knowledge.” ¹  Knowledge puffs up, but love builds up.

If someone thinks he is religious yet does not bridle his tongue, and so deceives his heart, his religion is futile.

So all of you approached me and said, “Let’s send some men ahead of us to scout out the land and bring us back word as to how we should attack it and what the cities are like there.”
