Let him not trust in what is worthless, ¹  deceiving himself; for worthlessness will be his reward. ² 

Why ²  do the nations rebel? ³  Why ⁴  are the countries ⁵  devising ⁶  plots that will fail? ⁷ 

Rise up, Lord! ¹  Don’t let men be defiant! ²  May the nations be judged in your presence!

They repay me evil for the good I have done; ¹  I am overwhelmed with sorrow. ²

The elders are gone from the city gate; the young men have stopped playing their music.

For wild animals ¹  are prowling over Mount Zion, which lies desolate.

How the people of Esau ¹  will be thoroughly plundered! ²  Their ³  hidden valuables will be ransacked! ⁴
