Abijah’s power grew; he had ¹  fourteen wives and fathered twenty-two sons and sixteen daughters.

Then those in Judah said, “The strength of the laborers ¹  has failed! The debris is so great that we are unable to rebuild the wall.”

Those who seek my life try to entrap me; ¹  those who want to harm me speak destructive words; all day long they say deceitful things.

May the arrogant be humiliated, for they have slandered me! ¹  But I meditate on your precepts.

When the chief adviser heard the king of Assyria had departed from Lachish, he left and went to Libnah, where the king was campaigning. ¹ 

You will not always be angry with me, will you? You will not be mad at me forever, will you?’ ¹  That is what you say, but you continually do all the evil that you can.” ² 

You must turn your face toward the siege of Jerusalem with your arm bared and prophesy against it.

(12:1) ¹  Ephraim has surrounded me with lies; the house of Israel has surrounded me ²  with deceit. But Judah still roams about with ³  God; he remains faithful to the Holy One.

Though all the nations follow their respective gods, ¹  we will follow ²  the Lord our God forever.

For recognition of the Lord’s sovereign majesty will fill the earth just as the waters fill up the sea. ¹ 

But Peter was following him from a distance, all the way to the high priest’s courtyard. After ¹  going in, he sat with the guards ²  to see the outcome.

Now Peter was sitting outside in the courtyard. A ¹  slave girl ²  came to him and said, “You also were with Jesus the Galilean.”

Then ¹  Jesus stood before the governor, and the governor asked him, ²  “Are you the king ³  of the Jews?” Jesus ⁴  said, “You say so.” ⁵ 

While ¹  they were going, some ²  of the guard went into the city and told the chief priests everything that had happened.

And Peter had followed him from a distance, up to the high priest’s courtyard. He ¹  was sitting with the guards ²  and warming himself by the fire.

Now they were all ¹  wailing and mourning ²  for her, but he said, “Stop your weeping; she is not dead but asleep.”

Now Peter and those with him were quite sleepy, ¹  but as they became fully awake, ²  they saw his glory and the two men standing with him.

Then the officers ¹  returned ²  to the chief priests and Pharisees, ³  who said to them, “Why didn’t you bring him back with you?” ⁴ 

Now standing beside Jesus’ cross were his mother, his mother’s sister, Mary the wife of Clopas, and Mary Magdalene. ¹ 

Meanwhile the other disciples came with the boat, dragging the net full of fish, for they were not far from land, only about a hundred yards. ¹
