“‘A man or woman who ¹  has in them a spirit of the dead or a familiar spirit ²  must be put to death. They must pelt them with stones; ³  their blood guilt is on themselves.’”

When Boaz had finished his meal and was feeling satisfied, he lay down to sleep at the far end of the grain heap. ¹  Then Ruth ²  crept up quietly, ³  uncovered his legs, ⁴  and lay down beside him. ⁵ 

Now Samuel had died, and all Israel had lamented over him and had buried him in Ramah, his hometown. ¹  In the meantime Saul had removed the mediums ²  and magicians ³  from the land.

So Saul instructed his servants, “Find me a woman who is a medium, ¹  so that I may go to her and inquire of her.” His servants replied to him, “There is a woman who is a medium in Endor.”

But the woman said to him, “Look, you are aware of what Saul has done; he has removed ¹  the mediums and magicians ²  from the land! Why are you trapping me ³  so you can put me to death?”

Now Haman went forth that day pleased and very much encouraged. ¹  But when Haman saw Mordecai at the king’s gate, and he did not rise nor tremble in his presence, ²  Haman was filled with rage toward Mordecai.

Then they will not be like their ancestors, who were a stubborn and rebellious generation, a generation that was not committed and faithful to God. ¹ 

They sit among the tombs ¹  and keep watch all night long. ²  They eat pork, ³  and broth ⁴  from unclean sacrificial meat is in their pans.

Now a large herd of pigs was feeding there on the hillside, ¹  and the demonic spirits ²  begged Jesus ³  to let them go into them. He gave them permission. ⁴ 

If ¹  I say, ²  “My bed will comfort me, ³  my couch will ease ⁴  my complaint,”

I will be happy and rejoice in you! I will sing praises to you, O sovereign One! ¹ 

The wicked are turned back and sent to Sheol; ¹  this is the destiny of ²  all the nations that ignore ³  God,

The Lord is near the brokenhearted; he delivers ¹  those who are discouraged. ² 

But the godly ¹  are happy; they rejoice before God and are overcome with joy. ² 

Heal the sick, raise the dead, ¹  cleanse lepers, cast out demons. Freely you received, freely give.

When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were sick and demon-possessed.

Those who had seen what had happened to the demon-possessed man reported it, and they also told about the pigs.

Suddenly ¹  a vast, heavenly army ²  appeared with the angel, praising God and saying,

Jesus then ¹  asked him, “What is your name?” He ²  said, “Legion,” ³  because many demons had entered him.

Those ¹  who had seen it told them how the man who had been demon-possessed had been healed. ²
