I will multiply your descendants so they will be as numerous as the stars in the sky, and I will give them ¹  all these lands. All the nations of the earth will pronounce blessings on one another using the name of your descendants. ² 

Just as surely as I have done this, so surely will I never reject the descendants of Jacob. Nor will I ever refuse to choose one of my servant David’s descendants to rule over the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Indeed, ¹  I will restore them ²  and show mercy to them.”

The ¹  seed sown among thorns is the person who hears the word, but worldly cares and the seductiveness of wealth ²  choke the word, ³  so it produces nothing.

Why then was the law given? ¹  It was added ²  because of transgressions, ³  until the arrival of the descendant ⁴  to whom the promise had been made. It was administered ⁵  through angels by an intermediary. ⁶ 

But I will also make the son of the slave wife into a great nation, for he is your descendant too.”

Can you count on ¹  it to bring in ²  your grain, ³  and gather the grain ⁴  to your threshing floor? ⁵ 

I will give him an eternal dynasty, ¹  and make his throne as enduring as the skies above. ² 

His dynasty will last forever. ¹  His throne will endure before me, like the sun, ² 

And as he sowed, some seeds ¹  fell along the path, and the birds came and devoured them.

Others are the ones sown among thorns: They are those who hear the word,

From the descendants ¹  of this man ²  God brought to Israel a Savior, Jesus, just as he promised. ³ 

Are they Hebrews? So am I. Are they Israelites? So am I. Are they descendants of Abraham? So am I.

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, a descendant of David; ¹  such is my gospel, ² 

When Athaliah the mother of Ahaziah saw that her son was dead, she was determined to destroy the entire royal line. ¹ 

You loyal followers of the Lord, ¹  praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honor him! All you descendants of Israel, stand in awe of him! ² 

The sower sows the word.

Just ¹  as Isaiah predicted, “If the Lord of armies ²  had not left us descendants, we would have become like Sodom, and we would have resembled Gomorrah.” ³ 

“Look! I now confirm ¹  my covenant with you and your descendants after you ² 

I will humiliate David’s descendants because of this, ¹  but not forever.” ² 

They experience his favor; ¹  their descendants ²  inherit the land. ³
