Then the people said to Samuel, “Who were the ones asking, ‘Will Saul reign over us?’ Hand over those men so we may execute them!”

The king’s servants replied to the king, “We will do whatever our lord the king decides.” ¹ 

For he ¹  is not a human being like I am, that ²  I might answer him, that we might come ³  together in judgment.

Since man’s days ¹  are determined, ²  the number of his months is under your control; ³  you have set his limit ⁴  and he cannot pass it.

Then I will ¹  tell about all your praiseworthy acts; ²  in the gates of Daughter Zion ³  I will rejoice because of your deliverance.” ⁴ 

They say to themselves, ¹  “We will oppress all of them.” ²  They burn down all the places where people worship God in the land. ³ 

Then we, your people, the sheep of your pasture, will continually thank you. ¹  We will tell coming generations of your praiseworthy acts. ² 

No man can live on without experiencing death, or deliver his life from the power of Sheol. ¹  (Selah)

They say, “Let’s attack Judah, terrorize it, and conquer it. ¹  Then we’ll set up the son of Tabeel as its king.” ² 

Yes, as your judgments unfold, ¹  O Lord, we wait for you. We desire your fame and reputation to grow. ² 

Each one says, ¹  ‘Come on, I’ll get some wine! Let’s guzzle some beer! Tomorrow will be just like today! We’ll have everything we want!’ ² 

But they just keep saying, ‘We do not care what you say! ¹  We will do whatever we want to do! We will continue to behave wickedly and stubbornly!’” ² 

Yet you say, ‘The behavior of the Lord is not right.’ House of Israel, I will judge each of you according to his behavior.” ¹ 

They again replied, “Let the king inform us ¹  of the dream; then we will disclose its ²  interpretation.”

He will restore ¹  us in a very short time; ²  he will heal us in a little while, ³  so that we may live in his presence.

“He saved others, but he cannot save himself! He is the king of Israel! If he comes down ¹  now from the cross, we will believe in him!

But if we say, ‘From people – ’” (they feared the crowd, for they all considered John to be truly a prophet).

Simon ¹  answered, ²  “Master, ³  we worked hard all night and caught nothing! But at your word ⁴  I will lower ⁵  the nets.”

The woman said to him, “I know that Messiah is coming” (the one called Christ); ¹  “whenever he ²  comes, he will tell ³  us everything.” ⁴ 

So they said to him, “Then what miraculous sign will you perform, so that we may see it and believe you? What will you do?
