He did this by predestining ¹  us to adoption as his ²  sons ³  through Jesus Christ, according to the pleasure ⁴  of his will –

but emptied himself by taking on the form of a slave, ¹  by looking like other men, ²  and by sharing in human nature. ³ 

And no one assumes this honor ¹  on his own initiative, ²  but only when called to it by God, ³  as in fact Aaron was.

But the rich person’s pride should be in his humiliation, because he will pass away like a wildflower in the meadow. ¹ 

My brothers and sisters, ¹  do not show prejudice ²  if you possess faith ³  in our glorious Lord Jesus Christ. ⁴ 

But if you show prejudice, you are committing sin and are convicted by the law as violators. ¹ 

Live ¹  as free people, not using your freedom as a pretext for evil, but as God’s slaves. ² 

Now ¹  in Egypt the Midianites ²  sold Joseph ³  to Potiphar, one of Pharaoh’s officials, the captain of the guard. ⁴ 

Joseph said to them, “What did you think you were doing? ¹  Don’t you know that a man like me can find out things like this by divination?” ² 

So tell ¹  my father about all my honor in Egypt and about everything you have seen. But bring my father down here quickly!” ² 

When Moses set up the tabernacle and put its bases in place, he set up its frames, attached its bars, and set up its posts.

Then the angel of the Lord stood in a path ¹  among the vineyards, where there was a wall on either side. ² 

He told ¹  them, “Look, set an ambush behind the city. Don’t go very far from the city; all of you be ready!

Then you rise up from your hiding place ¹  and seize ²  the city. The Lord your God will hand it over to you.

The army was in position – the main army north of the city and the rear guard west of the city. That night Joshua went into ¹  the middle of the valley.

All these kings gathered and joined forces ¹  at the Waters of Merom to fight Israel.

Now this man Micah owned a shrine. ¹  He made an ephod ²  and some personal idols and hired one of his sons to serve as a priest. ³ 

The Israelite army ¹  took heart ²  and once more arranged their battle lines, in the same place where they had taken their positions the day before.

So they ran and brought him from there. When he took his position among the people, he stood head and shoulders above them all.

Saul and the Israelite army ¹  assembled and camped in the valley of Elah, where they arranged their battle lines to fight against ²  the Philistines.
