But I will also make the son of the slave wife into a great nation, for he is your descendant too.”

The rich rule over ¹  the poor, and the borrower is servant ²  to the lender.

The lord had compassion on that slave and released him, and forgave him the debt.

Should you not have shown mercy to your fellow slave, just as I showed it to you?’

Blessed is that slave whom the master finds at work ¹  when he comes.

But if ¹  that evil slave should say to himself, ²  ‘My master is staying away a long time,’

And throw that worthless slave into the outer darkness, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.’

So ¹  he sent another slave to them again. This one they struck on the head and treated outrageously.

Then ¹  the slave said, ‘Sir, what you instructed has been done, and there is still room.’ ² 

Then ¹  one of them ²  struck the high priest’s slave, ³  cutting off his right ear.

The ¹  patriarchs, because they were jealous of Joseph, sold ²  him into Egypt. But ³  God was with him,

When his master heard his wife say, ¹  “This is the way ²  your slave treated me,” ³  he became furious. ⁴

The slave masters were pressuring ¹  them, saying, “Complete ²  your work for each day, just like when there was straw!”

Then his lord called the first slave ¹  and said to him, ‘Evil slave! I forgave you all that debt because you begged me!
