David divided them into groups corresponding to the sons of Levi: Gershon, Kohath, and Merari.

The rest of the Levites included: ¹  Shubael ²  from the sons of Amram, Jehdeiah from the sons of Shubael,

He was a descendant of Perez; he was in charge of all the army officers for the first month.

the blessing of the dying man descended on me, ¹  and I made the widow’s heart rejoice; ² 

“You, my servant Israel, Jacob whom I have chosen, offspring of Abraham my friend, ¹ 

When you performed awesome deeds that took us by surprise, ¹  you came down, and the mountains trembled ²  before you.

So ¹  he went down to Capernaum, ²  a town ³  in Galilee, and on the Sabbath he began to teach the people. ⁴ 

Therefore he said, “A nobleman ¹  went to a distant country to receive ²  for himself a kingdom and then return. ³ 

And it could be said that Levi himself, who receives tithes, paid a tithe through Abraham.

The border then descended southward to the Valley of Kanah. Ephraim was assigned cities there among the cities of Manasseh, ¹  but the border of Manasseh was north of the valley and ended at the sea.

The men worked faithfully. Their supervisors were Jahath and Obadiah (Levites descended from Merari), as well as Zechariah and Meshullam (descendants of Kohath). The Levites, all of whom were skilled musicians,

When the sun went down, Abram fell sound asleep, ¹  and great terror overwhelmed him. ²

and they started on their journey. ¹  The surrounding cities were afraid of God, ²  and they did not pursue the sons of Jacob.

chief Dishon, chief Ezer, chief Dishan. These were the chiefs of the Horites, according to their chief lists in the land of Seir.

So Moses extended his hand toward heaven, and there was absolute darkness ¹  throughout the land of Egypt for three days. ² 

The sons of Merari by their families were Mahli and Mushi. These are the families of the Levites by their clans.

From Kohath came the family of the Amramites, the family of the Izharites, the family of the Hebronites, and the family of the Uzzielites; these were the families of the Kohathites. ¹ 

Reuben was the firstborn of Israel. The Reubenites: from ¹  Hanoch, the family of the Hanochites; from Pallu, the family of the Palluites;
