Whenever they went out to fight, ¹  the Lord did them harm, ²  just as he had warned and solemnly vowed he would do. ³  They suffered greatly. ⁴ 

So Jonathan told David, “My father Saul is trying ¹  to kill you. So be careful tomorrow morning. Find ²  a hiding place and stay in seclusion. ³ 

Finally ¹  the Lord rejected Israel ²  just as he had warned he would do ³  through all his servants the prophets. Israel was deported from its land to Assyria and remains there to this very day.

“Nonetheless they grew disobedient and rebelled against you; they disregarded your law. ¹  They killed your prophets who had solemnly admonished them in order to cause them to return to you. They committed atrocious blasphemies.

But I have told you these things ¹  so that when their time ²  comes, you will remember that I told you about them. ³  “I did not tell you these things from the beginning because I was with you. ⁴ 

So Abimelech commanded all the people, “Whoever touches ¹  this man or his wife will surely be put to death.” ² 

and had warned him about this very thing, so that he would not follow other gods. ¹  But he did not obey ²  the Lord’s command.

For in fact when we were with you, we were telling you in advance that we would suffer affliction, and so it has happened, as you well know. ¹ 

But if you continue to do evil, both you and your king will be swept away.”

But Abraham said, ¹  ‘They have Moses and the prophets; they must respond to ²  them.’

Yet do not regard him as an enemy, but admonish him as a brother. ¹ 

While you were feeling secure I gave you warning. ¹  But you said, “I refuse to listen to you.” That is the way you have acted from your earliest history onward. ²  Indeed, you have never paid attention to me.

“Be careful ¹  never to take my son back there!” Abraham told him. ² 

¹ I say to the proud, “Do not be proud,” and to the wicked, “Do not be so confident of victory! ² 

“Watch out,” Jesus said to them, “beware of the yeast of the Pharisees ¹  and Sadducees.” ² 

Her ¹  parents were astonished, but he ordered them to tell no one ²  what had happened.

And they called them in and ordered ¹  them not to speak or teach at all in the name ²  of Jesus.
