The one ¹  who flatters ²  his neighbor spreads a net ³  for his steps. ⁴ 

All your allies ¹  will force ²  you from your homeland! ³  Your treaty partners ⁴  will deceive you and overpower you. Your trusted friends ⁵  will set an ambush ⁶  for ⁷  you that will take you by surprise! ⁸ 

And one of them, an expert in religious law, ¹  asked him a question to test ²  him:

You must destroy ¹  all the people whom the Lord your God is about to deliver over to you; you must not pity them or worship ²  their gods, for that will be a snare to you.

They have prepared a net to trap me; ¹  I am discouraged. ²  They have dug a pit for me. ³  They will fall ⁴  into it! (Selah)

those who bear false testimony against a person, ¹  who entrap the one who arbitrates at the city gate ²  and deprive the innocent of justice by making false charges. ³ 

Their tongues are like deadly arrows. ¹  They are always telling lies. ²  Friendly words for their neighbors come from their mouths. But their minds are thinking up ways to trap them. ³ 

Can anyone catch it by its eyes, ¹  or pierce its nose with a snare? ² 

The wicked lay a trap for me, but I do not wander from your precepts.

He will die because ¹  there was no discipline; because of the greatness of his folly ²  he will reel. ³ 

Deliver yourself like a gazelle from a snare, ¹  and like a bird from the trap ²  of the fowler.

Making a fortune ¹  by a lying tongue is like ²  a vapor driven back and forth; ³  they seek death. ⁴ 

One who digs a pit may ¹  fall into it, and one who breaks through a wall may be bitten by a snake. ² 

Those who revolt are knee-deep in slaughter, ¹  but I will discipline them all. ² 

but we preach about a crucified Christ, ¹  a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles.

I discovered this: ¹  More bitter than death is the kind of ²  woman ³  who is like a hunter’s snare; ⁴  her heart is like a hunter’s net and her hands are like prison chains. The man who pleases God escapes her, but the sinner is captured by her.

The one who runs away from the sound of the terror will fall into the pit; ¹  the one who climbs out of the pit, will be trapped by the snare. For the floodgates of the heavens ²  are opened up ³  and the foundations of the earth shake.

The nations fell ¹  into the pit they had made; their feet were caught in the net they had hidden. ² 

Let destruction take them by surprise! ¹  Let the net they hid catch them! Let them fall into destruction! ² 

You cause those who know me to keep their distance; you make me an appalling sight to them. I am trapped and cannot get free. ¹
