Then ¹  they ²  told me: “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, ³  languages, and kings.”

They say, ¹  “We speak persuasively; ²  we know how to flatter and boast. ³  Who is our master?” ⁴ 

“If ¹  evil is sweet in his mouth and he hides it under his tongue, ² 

I said, ¹  “O Lord, rescue me ²  from those who lie with their lips ³  and those who deceive with their tongue. ⁴ 

But this will be the nature of the plague with which the Lord will strike all the nations that have fought against Jerusalem: Their flesh will decay while they stand on their feet, their eyes will rot away in their sockets, and their tongues will dissolve in their mouths.

So then, one who speaks in a tongue should pray that he may interpret.

At that time we laughed loudly and shouted for joy. ¹  At that time the nations said, ²  “The Lord has accomplished great things for these people.”

For the one speaking in a tongue does not speak to people but to God, for no one understands; he is speaking mysteries by the Spirit. ¹ 

Then ¹  the angel ²  said to me, “The waters you saw (where the prostitute is seated) are peoples, multitudes, ³  nations, and languages.

For ¹  they do not speak the truth; ²  their stomachs are like the place of destruction, ³  their throats like an open grave, ⁴  their tongues like a steep slope leading into it. ⁵ 

People lie to one another; ¹  they flatter and deceive. ² 

The one who speaks in a tongue builds himself up, ¹  but the one who prophesies builds up the church.

Their tongues are like deadly arrows. ¹  They are always telling lies. ²  Friendly words for their neighbors come from their mouths. But their minds are thinking up ways to trap them. ³ 

For three and a half days those from every ¹  people, tribe, ²  nation, and language will look at their corpses, because they will not permit them to be placed in a tomb. ³ 

With it we bless the Lord ¹  and Father, and with it we curse people ²  made in God’s image.

The beast ¹  was permitted to go to war against the saints and conquer them. ²  He was given ruling authority ³  over every tribe, people, ⁴  language, and nation,

So he brought the men ¹  down to the water. Then the Lord said to Gideon, “Separate those who lap the water as a dog laps from those who kneel to drink.” ² 

The godly speak wise words and promote justice. ¹ 

You do damage with words, ¹  and use your tongue to deceive. ² 

May those who say, “Aha! Aha!” be driven back ¹  and disgraced! ²
