While ¹  you are still there speaking to the king, I will arrive ²  and verify your report.” ³ 

Tell your children ¹  about it, have your children tell their children, and their children the following generation. ² 

Then ¹  when Jesus ²  noticed how the guests ³  chose the places of honor, ⁴  he told them a parable. He said to them,

He said to them, “Listen to this dream I had: ¹ 

explain ¹  to your children, ‘Israel crossed the Jordan River ²  on dry ground.’

The gatekeepers relayed the news to the royal palace. ¹ 

He does not allow the wicked to live, ¹  but he gives justice to the poor.

Yes, ¹  I confess my wrongdoing, and I am concerned about my sins.

I will not die, but live, and I will proclaim what the Lord has done. ¹ 

I told you about my ways ¹  and you answered me. Teach me your statutes!

But Peter ¹  said to him, “Explain this parable to us.”

This ¹  took place to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet: ² 

Blind guides! You strain out a gnat yet swallow a camel! ¹ 

and all who heard it were astonished ¹  at what the shepherds said.

So ¹  the news ²  about him spread into all areas of the region. ³ 

This ¹  report ²  about Jesus ³  circulated ⁴  throughout ⁵  Judea and all the surrounding country.

After Jesus ¹  had said this, he continued on ahead, ²  going up to Jerusalem. ³ 

Then he will show you a large furnished room upstairs. Make preparations there.”

But these words seemed like pure nonsense ¹  to them, and they did not believe them.

“Brothers and fathers, listen to my defense ¹  that I now ²  make to you.”
