For her house ¹  sinks ²  down to death, and her paths lead ³  to the place of the departed spirits. ⁴ 

And the demonic spirits ¹  begged him, “Send us into the pigs. Let us enter them.”

They cast out many demons and anointed many sick people with oil and healed them.

(For the Sadducees say there is no resurrection, or angel, or spirit, but the Pharisees acknowledge them all.) ¹ 

And he says ¹  of the angels, “He makes ²  his angels spirits and his ministers a flame of fire,” ³ 

Do not extinguish the Spirit.

He makes the winds his messengers, and the flaming fire his attendant. ¹ 

But the Pharisees ¹  said, “By the ruler ²  of demons he casts out demons.” ³ 

if indeed, after we have put on ¹  our heavenly house, ²  we will not be found naked.

No, I mean that what the pagans sacrifice ¹  is to demons and not to God. I do not want you to be partners with demons.

If you have died with Christ to the elemental spirits ¹  of the world, why do you submit to them as though you lived in the world?

He passed his son ¹  through the fire ²  and practiced divination and omen reading. He set up a ritual pit to conjure up underworld spirits, and appointed magicians to supervise it. ³  He did a great amount of evil in the sight of the Lord, provoking him to anger. ⁴ 

¹ They will say to you, “Seek oracles at the pits used to conjure up underworld spirits, from the magicians who chirp and mutter incantations. ²  Should people not seek oracles from their gods, by asking the dead about the destiny of the living?” ³ 

The dead do not come back to life, the spirits of the dead do not rise. ¹  That is because ²  you came in judgment ³  and destroyed them, you wiped out all memory of them.

For our struggle ¹  is not against flesh and blood, ²  but against the rulers, against the powers, against the world rulers of this darkness, ³  against the spiritual forces ⁴  of evil in the heavens. ⁵ 

Do you accomplish amazing things for the dead? Do the departed spirits ¹  rise up and give you thanks? (Selah)

Then the demons begged him, ¹  “If you drive us out, send us into the herd of pigs.”

But if I cast out demons by the Spirit of God, then the kingdom of God ¹  has already overtaken ²  you.

As he was getting into the boat the man who had been demon-possessed asked if he could go ¹  with him.

But some of them said, “By the power of Beelzebul, ¹  the ruler ²  of demons, he casts out demons.”
