Then the king departed to his palace. But he spent the night without eating, and no diversions ¹  were brought to him. He was unable to sleep. ² 

I rested and slept; I awoke, ¹  for the Lord protects ²  me.

That is why many of you are weak and sick, and quite a few are dead. ¹ 

When Joseph awoke from sleep he did what the angel of the Lord ¹  told him. He took his wife,

for it is his only covering – it is his garment for his body. ¹  What else can he sleep in? ²  And ³  when he cries out to me, I will hear, for I am gracious.

You must by all means ¹  return to him at sunset the item he gave you as security so that he may sleep in his outer garment and bless you for it; it will be considered a just ²  deed by the Lord your God.

She made him go to sleep on her lap ¹  and then called a man in to shave off ²  the seven braids of his hair. ³  She made him vulnerable ⁴  and his strength left him.

“‘I will make a covenant of peace with them and will rid the land of wild beasts, so that they can live securely ¹  in the wilderness and even sleep in the woods. ² 

It is vain for you to rise early, come home late, and work so hard for your food. ¹  Yes, ²  he can provide for those whom he loves even when they sleep. ³ 

As he spoke with me, I fell into a trance with my face to the ground. But he touched me and stood me upright. ¹ 

He reached a certain place ¹  where he decided to camp because the sun had gone down. ²  He took one of the stones ³  and placed it near his head. ⁴  Then he fell asleep ⁵  in that place

She said, “The Philistines are here, ¹  Samson!” He woke up ²  and thought, ³  “I will do as I did before ⁴  and shake myself free.” But he did not realize that the Lord had left him.

When I tried ¹  to gain ²  wisdom and to observe the activity ³  on earth – even though it prevents anyone from sleeping day or night ⁴  –

And do this ¹  because we know ²  the time, that it is already the hour for us to awake from sleep, for our salvation is now nearer than when we became believers.

You bring their lives to an end and they “fall asleep.” ¹  In the morning they are like the grass that sprouts up;

Now before the spies ¹  went to sleep, Rahab ²  went up ³  to the roof.

then let my wife turn the millstone ¹  for another man, and may other men have sexual relations with her. ² 

You held my eyelids open; ¹  I was troubled and could not speak. ² 

When you walk about, ¹  they ²  will guide you; when you lie down, they will watch over you; when you wake up, ³  they will talk ⁴  to you.

He goes to sleep and gets up, night and day, and the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how.
