He called out loudly ¹  as follows: ²  ‘Chop down the tree and lop off its branches! Strip off its foliage and scatter its fruit! Let the animals flee from under it and the birds from its branches!

“I am about to punish them ¹  in such a way,” he says, “that they will be looted by their own slaves.” Then you will know that the Lord who rules over all has sent me.

who speak lies, and make false promises. ¹ 

The rich and the poor meet together; ¹  the Lord is the creator of them both. ² 

Under three things the earth trembles, ¹  and under four things it cannot bear up:

Strengthen the hands that have gone limp, steady the knees that shake! ¹ 

(63:19b) ¹  If only you would tear apart the sky ²  and come down! The mountains would tremble ³  before you!

The Babylonians are all like lions roaring for prey. They are like lion cubs growling for something to eat. ¹ 

I made the nations shake at the sound of its fall, when I threw it down to Sheol, along with those who descend to the pit. ¹  Then all the trees of Eden, the choicest and the best of Lebanon, all that were well-watered, were comforted in the earth below.

The ¹  guards were shaken and became like dead men because they were so afraid of him.
