I am a debtor ¹  both to the Greeks and to the barbarians, both to the wise and to the foolish.

Does not nature ¹  itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace for him,

So all the king’s wise men came in, but they were unable to read the writing or to make known its ¹  interpretation to the king.

While I, Daniel, was watching the vision, I sought to understand it. Now one who appeared to be a man was standing before me.

I heard, but I did not understand. So I said, “Sir, ¹  what will happen after these things?”

Sober up as you should, and stop sinning! For some have no knowledge of God – I say this to your shame!

The man and his wife were both naked, ¹  but they were not ashamed. ² 

This advice made sense to Pharaoh and all his officials. ¹ 

The letter you sent to us has been translated and read in my presence.

“How long until you ¹  make an end of words? ²  You must consider, ³  and then ⁴  we can talk.

Why should we be regarded as beasts, and considered stupid ¹  in your sight?

So do not say, ¹  ‘We have found wisdom! God will refute ²  him, not man!’

Men of understanding say to me – any wise man listening to me says –

When I tried to make sense of this, it was troubling to me. ¹ 

The spiritually insensitive do not recognize this; the fool does not understand this. ¹ 

ears, but cannot hear, noses, but cannot smell,

Your instructions are a doorway through which light shines. ¹  They give ²  insight to the untrained. ³ 

Discretion ¹  will protect you, ²  understanding will guard you,

in order to safeguard ¹  discretion, ²  and that your lips may guard knowledge.

The woman called Folly ¹  is brash, ²  she is naive ³  and does not know ⁴  anything. ⁵
