So they went up and investigated the land from the wilderness of Zin to Rehob, ¹  at the entrance of Hamath. ² 

They left and went up to the hill country, coming to the Eshcol Valley, ¹  which they scouted out.

Would it turn out well if he would examine ¹  you? Or as one deceives ²  a man would you deceive him?

He has searched ¹  the sources ²  of the rivers and what was hidden he has brought into the light.

But then one passes by, and suddenly they have disappeared! ¹  I looked for them, but they could not be found.

It is the glory of God ¹  to conceal ²  a matter, and it is the glory of a king to search out a matter.

As the heaven is high ¹  and the earth is deep so the hearts of kings are unsearchable. ² 

The Teacher sought to find delightful ¹  words, and to write ²  accurately truthful sayings. ³ 

O Lord, in distress they looked for you; they uttered incantations because of your discipline. ¹ 

The human mind is more deceitful than anything else. It is incurably bad. ¹  Who can understand it?

According to the number of the days you have investigated this land, forty days – one day for a year – you will suffer for ¹  your iniquities, forty years, and you will know what it means to thwart me. ²
