They come in as through a wide breach; amid the crash ¹  they come rolling in. ² 

He destroyed their vines with hail, and their sycamore-fig trees with driving rain.

For they have devoured Jacob and destroyed his home.

You have cut short his youth, ¹  and have covered him with shame. (Selah)

I almost ¹  came to complete ruin ²  in the midst of the whole congregation!” ³ 

Therefore, his disaster will come suddenly; in an instant ¹  he will be broken, and there will be no remedy.

He will be beaten and despised, ¹  and his reproach will not be wiped away; ² 

The wise person ¹  accepts instructions, ²  but the one who speaks foolishness ³  will come to ruin. ⁴ 

A false witness will not go unpunished, and the one who spouts out ¹  lies will perish. ² 

Panic and pitfall ¹  have come upon us, devastation and destruction. ² 

For wild animals ¹  are prowling over Mount Zion, which lies desolate.

Ephraim has mixed itself like flour ¹  among the nations; Ephraim is like a ruined cake of bread that is scorched on one side. ² 

Your riches have rotted and your clothing has become moth-eaten.

This food should be held in storage for the land in preparation for the seven years of famine that will occur throughout the land of Egypt. In this way the land will survive the famine.” ¹ 

Woe to you, Moab. You are ruined, O people of Chemosh! ¹  He has made his sons fugitives, and his daughters the prisoners of King Sihon of the Amorites.

From the ends of the earth we ¹  hear songs – the Just One is majestic. ²  But I ³  say, “I’m wasting away! I’m wasting away! I’m doomed! Deceivers deceive, deceivers thoroughly deceive!” ⁴ 

Yes, your land lies in ruins; it is desolate and devastated. ¹  But now you will be too small to hold your residents, and those who devoured you will be far away.

The Lord says, “I will restore the ruined houses of the descendants of Jacob. I will show compassion on their ruined homes. ¹  Every city will be rebuilt on its former ruins. ²  Every fortified dwelling will occupy its traditional site. ³ 

ט (Tet) Her city gates have fallen ¹  to the ground; he smashed to bits ²  the bars that lock her gates. ³  Her king and princes were taken into exile; ⁴  there is no more guidance available. ⁵  As for her prophets, they no longer receive ⁶  a vision from the Lord.

And no one pours new wine into old wineskins; ¹  otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and the skins will be destroyed. Instead new wine is poured into new wineskins.” ²
