But regarding the fact that he has raised Jesus ¹  from the dead, never ²  again to be ³  in a state of decay, God ⁴  has spoken in this way: ‘I will give you ⁵  the holy and trustworthy promises ⁶  made to David.’ ⁷ 

that you were at that time without the Messiah, ¹  alienated from the citizenship of Israel and strangers to the covenants of promise, ²  having no hope and without God in the world.

You must revere the Lord your God, serve him, and take oaths using only his name.

Please remember them, O my God, because they have defiled the priesthood, the covenant of the priesthood, ¹  and the Levites.

Are God’s consolations ¹  too trivial for you; ²  or a word spoken ³  in gentleness to you?

So they proclaim that the Lord, my protector, is just and never unfair. ¹ 

I will fulfill my vows to the Lord before all his people,

In my heart I store up ¹  your words, ²  so I might not sin against you.

My eyes grow tired as I wait for your promise to be fulfilled. ¹  I say, ²  “When will you comfort me?”

There I will make David strong; ¹  I have determined that my chosen king’s dynasty will continue. ² 

who leaves ¹  the husband ²  from her younger days, ³  and forgets her marriage covenant ⁴  made before God. ⁵ 

O ¹  my son, O son of my womb, O son ²  of my vows,

Egypt is totally incapable of helping. ¹  For this reason I call her ‘Proud one ²  who is silenced.’” ³ 

“Since, I, the Lord, do not go back on my promises, ¹  you, sons of Jacob, have not perished.

like the accounts ¹  passed on ²  to us by those who were eyewitnesses and servants of the word ³  from the beginning. ⁴ 

in hope of eternal life, which God, who does not lie, promised before the ages began. ¹ 

And let us hold unwaveringly to the hope that we confess, for the one who made the promise is trustworthy.

The Lord has made a promise to Israel. He promises it as the one who fixed the sun to give light by day and the moon and stars to give light by night. He promises it as the one who stirs up the sea so that its waves roll. He promises it as the one who is known as the Lord who rules over all. ¹ 

Revere the Lord your God, serve him, be loyal to him and take oaths only in his name.

With regard to the matter that you and I discussed, the Lord is the witness between us forever!” ¹
