But to the rest of you in Thyatira, all who do not hold to this teaching ¹  (who have not learned the so-called “deep secrets ²  of Satan”), to you I say: I do not put any additional burden on you.

Then the Jewish leaders ¹  were astonished ²  and said, “How does this man know so much when he has never had formal instruction?” ³ 

So Moses was trained ¹  in all the wisdom of the Egyptians and was powerful ²  in his words and deeds.

When Herod ¹  saw that he had been tricked by the wise men, he became enraged. He sent men ²  to kill all the children in Bethlehem ³  and throughout the surrounding region from the age of two and under, according to the time he had learned from the wise men.

What follows ¹  is a copy of the letter that King Artaxerxes gave to Ezra the priestly scribe. ²  Ezra was ³  a scribe in matters pertaining to the commandments of the Lord and his statutes over Israel:

But the thought of striking out against ¹  Mordecai alone was repugnant to him, for he had been informed ²  of the identity of Mordecai’s people. ³  So Haman sought to destroy all the Jews (that is, the people of Mordecai) ⁴  who were in all the kingdom of Ahasuerus.

But when the crowds found out, they followed him. He ¹  welcomed them, spoke to them about the kingdom of God, ²  and cured those who needed healing. ³ 

David realized ¹  that Saul had come out to seek his life; at that time David was in Horesh in the desert of Ziph.

When Mordecai learned of the conspiracy, ¹  he informed Queen Esther, ²  and Esther told the king in Mordecai’s behalf. ³ 

Then Herod ¹  privately summoned the wise men and determined from them when the star had appeared.

I am telling you the things I have seen while with the ¹  Father; ²  as for you, ³  practice the things you have heard from the ⁴  Father!”

but Saul learned of their plot against him. ¹  They were also watching ²  the city gates ³  day and night so that they could kill him.

Balak son of Zippor saw all that the Israelites had done to the Amorites.

He pours contempt on noblemen and disarms ¹  the powerful. ² 

“Listen to my words, you wise men; hear ¹  me, you learned men. ² 

With my knowledge I will speak comprehensively, ¹  and to my Creator I will ascribe righteousness. ² 

Before I was afflicted I used to stray off, ¹  but now I keep your instructions. ² 

My child, ²  be attentive to my wisdom, pay close attention ³  to my understanding,

Nevertheless, let us live up to the standard ¹  that we have already attained. ² 

since he wants ¹  all people ²  to be saved and to come to a knowledge of the truth.
