Jehoshaphat’s power kept increasing. He built fortresses and storage cities throughout Judah.

but from my youth I raised the orphan ¹  like a father, and from my mother’s womb ²  I guided the widow! ³ 

Then King Belshazzar was very terrified, and he was visibly shaken. ¹  His nobles were completely dumbfounded.

Other seed fell on rock, ¹  and when it came up, it withered because it had no moisture.

Israel settled in the land of Egypt, in the land of Goshen, and they owned land there. They were fruitful and increased rapidly in number.

The Israelites, ¹  however, ²  were fruitful, increased greatly, multiplied, and became extremely strong, ³  so that the land was filled with them.

So they gathered it each morning, ¹  each person according to what he could eat, and when the sun got hot, it would melt. ² 

Whenever the Israelites were strong militarily, they forced the Canaanites to do hard labor, but they never totally conquered them. ¹ 

Gilead’s wife also gave ¹  him sons. When his wife’s sons grew up, they made Jephthah leave and said to him, “You are not going to inherit any of our father’s wealth, ²  because you are another woman’s son.”

Instead, they tried to row ¹  back to land, ²  but they were not able to do so ³  because the storm kept growing worse and worse. ⁴ 

In his old age Samuel appointed his sons as judges over Israel.

And Jesus increased ¹  in wisdom and in stature, and in favor with God and with people.

By now a strong wind was blowing and the sea was getting rough.

So the churches were being strengthened in the faith and were increasing in number every day. ¹ 

That entire generation passed away; ¹  a new generation grew up ²  that had not personally experienced the Lord’s presence or seen what he had done for Israel. ³ 

Another battle was fought between the Philistines and Israel. So David went down with his soldiers ¹  and fought the Philistines. David became exhausted.

While he was offering sacrifices, Absalom sent for Ahithophel the Gilonite, David’s adviser, ¹  to come from his city, Giloh. ²  The conspiracy was gaining momentum, and the people were starting to side with Absalom.

The male goat acted even more arrogantly. But no sooner had the large horn become strong than it was broken, and there arose four conspicuous horns ¹  in its place, ²  extending toward the four winds of the sky. ³ 

So God treated the midwives well, ¹  and the people multiplied and became very strong.

Saul himself was in the thick of the battle; ¹  the archers ²  spotted him and wounded him severely.
