But they were insistent, ¹  demanding with loud shouts that he be crucified. And their shouts prevailed.

They asked him, “Who is the man who said to you, ‘Pick up your mat ¹  and walk’?” ² 

Though ¹  they found ²  no basis ³  for a death sentence, ⁴  they asked Pilate to have him executed.

Jehoiakim paid Pharaoh the required amount of silver and gold, but to meet Pharaoh’s demands Jehoiakim had to tax the land. He collected an assessed amount from each man among the people of the land in order to pay Pharaoh Necho. ¹ 

So Pharaoh summoned Abram and said, “What is this ¹  you have done to me? Why didn’t you tell me that she was your wife?

Joseph said to them, “What did you think you were doing? ¹  Don’t you know that a man like me can find out things like this by divination?” ² 

Then the king of Egypt summoned ¹  the midwives and said to them, “Why have you done this and let the boys live?” ² 

The slave masters were pressuring ¹  them, saying, “Complete ²  your work for each day, just like when there was straw!”

Moses said to Aaron, “What did this people do to you, that you have brought on them so great a sin?”

Then Balak said to Balaam, “What have you done to me? I brought you to curse my enemies, but on the contrary ¹  you have only blessed them!” ² 

But they said to Joshua, “We are willing to be your subjects.” ¹  So Joshua said to them, “Who are you and where do you come from?”

Samuel replied, “If that is the case, ¹  then what is this sound of sheep in my ears and the sound of cattle that I hear?”

David said to the young man ¹  who was telling him this, “How do you know that Saul and his son Jonathan are dead?” ² 

When Uriah came to him, David asked about how Joab and the army were doing and how the campaign was going. ¹ 

As she brought them to him to eat, he grabbed her and said to her, “Come on! Get in bed with me, ¹  my sister!”

He called his personal attendant and said to him, “Take this woman out of my sight ¹  and lock the door behind her!”

Then Joab got up and came to Absalom’s house. He said to him, “Why did your servants set my portion of field on fire?”

The king ¹  asked them, “Describe the appearance ²  of this man who came up to meet you and told you these things.”

The king of Egypt prevented him from ruling in Jerusalem and imposed on the land a special tax ¹  of one hundred talents ²  of silver and a talent of gold.

We also inquired of their names in order to inform you, so that we might write the names of the men who were their leaders.
