What do you know that we don’t know? What do you understand that we don’t understand? ¹ 

So they say to God, ‘Turn away from us! We do not want to ¹  know your ways. ² 

For he repays a person for his work, ¹  and according to the conduct of a person, he causes the consequences to find him. ² 

and make them a little less than the heavenly beings? ¹  You grant mankind ²  honor and majesty; ³ 

For our hearts rejoice in him, for we trust in his holy name.

All this has happened to us, even though we have not rejected you ¹  or violated your covenant with us. ² 

Make us happy in proportion to the days you have afflicted us, in proportion to the years we have experienced ¹  trouble!

Show us favor, O Lord, show us favor! For we have had our fill of humiliation, and then some. ¹ 

O Lord, you make us secure, ¹  for even all we have accomplished, you have done for us. ² 

Who would have believed ¹  what we ²  just heard? ³  When ⁴  was the Lord’s power ⁵  revealed through him?

we have sinned! We have done what is wrong and wicked; we have rebelled by turning away from your commandments and standards.

Yet the Lord our God is compassionate and forgiving, ¹  even though we have rebelled against him.

Peter began to speak to him, “Look, ¹  we have left everything to follow you!” ² 

Then you will begin to say, ‘We ate and drank in your presence, and you taught in our streets.’ ¹ 

Then ¹  they said, “Why do we need further testimony? We have heard it ourselves ²  from his own lips!” ³ 

We ¹  have come to believe and to know ²  that you are the Holy One of God!” ³ 

Then the Jewish leaders ¹  were astonished ²  and said, “How does this man know so much when he has never had formal instruction?” ³ 

For we consider that a person ¹  is declared righteous by faith apart from the works of the law. ² 

And if Christ has not been raised, then our preaching is futile and your faith is empty.

We are experiencing trouble on every side, ¹  but are not crushed; we are perplexed, ²  but not driven to despair;
