Then his brothers also came and threw themselves down before him; they said, “Here we are; we are your slaves.”

If you think, “These nations are more numerous than I – how can I dispossess them?”

The people said to Joshua, “We will worship ¹  the Lord our God and obey him.” ² 

They said, ¹  “Come, be our commander, so we can fight with the Ammonites.”

All the assembly replied in a loud voice: “We will do just as you have said! ¹ 

to turn back his life from the place of corruption, that he may be enlightened with the light of life.

By God’s power we will conquer; ¹  he will trample down ²  our enemies.

Satisfy us in the morning ¹  with your loyal love! Then we will shout for joy and be happy ²  all our days!

Our Lord is great and has awesome power; ¹  there is no limit to his wisdom. ² 

Join with us! ¹  We will all share ²  equally in what we steal.” ³ 

But if we say, ‘From people,’ we fear the crowd, for they all consider John to be a prophet.”

In ¹  reply all the people said, “Let his blood be on us and on our children!”

If ¹  this matter is heard before the governor, ²  we will satisfy him ³  and keep you out of trouble.” ⁴ 

so that together you may with one voice glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

For in this earthly house ¹  we groan, because we desire to put on ²  our heavenly dwelling,

Thus we are full of courage and would prefer to be away ¹  from the body and at home with the Lord.

so that what you can be proud of may increase ¹  because of me in Christ Jesus, when I come back to you. ² 

and that we may be delivered from perverse and evil people. For not all have faith.

If we endure, we will also reign with him. ¹  If we deny ²  him, ³  he will also deny us.
