The Lord said to Moses, “Write this as a memorial in the ¹  book, and rehearse ²  it in Joshua’s hearing; ³  for I will surely wipe out ⁴  the remembrance ⁵  of Amalek from under heaven.

for the Lord your God, who is present among you, is a jealous God and his anger will erupt against you and remove you from the land. ¹ 

When the Canaanites and all who live in the land hear about this, they will turn against us and destroy the very memory of us ¹  from the earth. What will you do to protect your great reputation?” ² 

The Lord said to Moses, “Whoever has sinned against me – that person I will wipe out of my book.

I chase my enemies and destroy them; I do not turn back until I wipe them out.

I wipe them out and beat them to death; they cannot get up; they fall at my feet.

For it is a fire that devours even to Destruction, ¹  and it would uproot ²  all my harvest.

I chase my enemies and catch ¹  them; I do not turn back until I wipe them out.

By your power ¹  we will drive back ²  our enemies; by your strength ³  we will trample down ⁴  our foes! ⁵ 

May the creditor seize ¹  all he owns! May strangers loot his property! ² 

Why ¹  should the Egyptians say, ²  ‘For evil ³  he led them out to kill them in the mountains and to destroy ⁴  them from the face of the earth’? Turn from your burning anger, and relent ⁵  of this evil against your people.

But now, if you will forgive their sin…, ¹  but if not, wipe me out ²  from your book that you have written.” ³ 

In fact, days are coming when I will remove your strength ¹  and the strength ²  of your father’s house. There will not be an old man in your house!

Their descendants remained in the land (the Israelites were unable to wipe them out completely). Solomon conscripted them for his work crews, and they continue in that role to this very day. ¹ 

For how can I watch the calamity that will befall my people, and how can I watch the destruction of my relatives?” ¹ 

You terrified the nations with your battle cry; ¹  you destroyed the wicked; ²  you permanently wiped out all memory of them. ³ 

They say to themselves, ¹  “We will oppress all of them.” ²  They burn down all the places where people worship God in the land. ³ 

For the Lord is angry at all the nations and furious with all their armies. He will annihilate them and slaughter them.

For the sake of my reputation ¹  I hold back my anger; for the sake of my prestige ²  I restrain myself from destroying you. ³ 

I will kill everything living in Jerusalem, ¹  people and animals alike! They will die from terrible diseases.
