All who see me taunt ¹  me; they mock me ²  and shake their heads. ³ 

Your enemies, O Lord, hurl insults; they insult your chosen king as they dog his footsteps. ¹ 

I am disdained by them. ¹  When they see me, they shake their heads. ² 

You will become an occasion of horror, a proverb, and an object of ridicule to all the peoples to whom the Lord will drive you.

May those who want to harm me be totally embarrassed and ashamed! ¹  May those who arrogantly taunt me be covered with shame and humiliation! ² 

I have prayed for deliverance, because otherwise they will gloat over me; ¹  when my foot slips they will arrogantly taunt me. ² 

I cannot eat, I weep day and night; ¹  all day long they say to me, ²  “Where is your God?”

For tyrants will disappear, those who taunt will vanish, and all those who love to do wrong will be eliminated ¹  –

Peninnah ¹  would behave this way year after year. Whenever Hannah ²  went up to the Lord’s house, Peninnah ³  would upset her so that she would weep and refuse to eat.

David asked the men who were standing near him, “What will be done for the man who strikes down this Philistine and frees Israel from this humiliation? ¹  For who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he defies the armies of the living God?”

For I solemnly swear,” ¹  says the Lord, “that Bozrah ²  will become a pile of ruins. It will become an object of horror and ridicule, an example to be used in curses. ³  All the towns around it will lie in ruins forever.”

then I will remove Israel from the land ¹  I have given them, I will abandon this temple I have consecrated with my presence, ²  and Israel will be mocked and ridiculed ³  among all the nations.
