for which I suffer hardship to the point of imprisonment ¹  as a criminal, but God’s message ²  is not imprisoned! ³ 

And I tell you that Elijah has already come. Yet they did not recognize him, but did to him whatever they wanted. In ¹  the same way, the Son of Man will suffer at their hands.”

He said to them, “Elijah does indeed come first, and restores all things. And why is it written that the Son of Man must suffer many things and be despised?

But if we are afflicted, ¹  it is for your comfort and salvation; if we are comforted, it is for your comfort that you experience in your patient endurance of the same sufferings that we also suffer.

For what credit is it if you sin and are mistreated and endure it? But if you do good and suffer and so endure, this finds favor with God. ¹

This brings you great joy, ¹  although you may have to suffer ²  for a short time in various trials.

But if you suffer as a Christian, ¹  do not be ashamed, but glorify ²  God that you bear such a name. ³

They ¹  will undergo the penalty of eternal destruction, away from the presence of the Lord and from the glory of his strength, ²
