“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here,” she says to those who lack understanding. ¹ 

Reverential awe ¹  came over everyone, ²  and many wonders and miraculous signs ³  came about by the apostles.

Praised be your good judgment! May you yourself be rewarded ¹  for having prevented me this day from shedding blood and taking matters into my own hands!

Wisdom is found in the words ¹  of the discerning person, ²  but the one who lacks wisdom ³  will be disciplined. ⁴ 

Does not the ear test words, as ¹  the tongue ²  tastes food? ³ 

He deprives the trusted advisers ¹  of speech ²  and takes away the discernment ³  of elders.

For the ear assesses ¹  words as the mouth ²  tastes food.

For God deprived her of wisdom, and did not impart understanding to her.

Teach me proper discernment ¹  and understanding! For I consider your commands to be reliable. ² 

My child, do not let them ¹  escape from your sight; safeguard sound wisdom and discretion. ² 

Counsel and sound wisdom belong to me; ¹  I possess understanding and might.

The one who wanders ¹  from the way of wisdom ²  will end up ³  in the company of the departed. ⁴ 

The sluggard is wiser in his own estimation ¹  than seven people who respond with good sense. ² 

Of what ¹  use is money in the hand of a fool, ²  since he has no intention ³  of acquiring wisdom? ⁴ 

He stores up ¹  effective counsel ²  for the upright, ³  and is like ⁴  a shield ⁵  for those who live ⁶  with integrity, ⁷ 

Like a gold ring ¹  in a pig’s snout ²  is ³  a beautiful woman who rejects ⁴  discretion. ⁵ 

A rebuke makes a greater impression on ¹  a discerning person than a hundred blows on a fool. ² 

The one who acquires wisdom ¹  loves himself; ²  the one who preserves understanding will prosper. ³ 

Do not speak in the ears of a fool, ¹  for he will despise the wisdom of your words. ² 

A wise person’s good sense protects him, ¹  but a fool’s lack of sense leaves him vulnerable. ²
