He will not consider ¹  any compensation; ²  he will not be willing, even if you multiply the compensation. ³ 

The Lord satisfies ¹  the appetite ²  of the righteous, but he thwarts ³  the craving ⁴  of the wicked.

The one who puts up security for a stranger ¹  will surely have trouble, ²  but whoever avoids ³  shaking hands ⁴  will be secure.

The one who neglects ¹  discipline ends up in ²  poverty and shame, but the one who accepts reproof is honored. ³ 

The one who stiffens his neck ¹  after numerous rebukes ²  will suddenly be destroyed ³  without remedy. ⁴ 

But I will completely uproot and destroy any of those nations that will not pay heed,’” ¹  says the Lord.

“Suppose such a man has ¹  a violent son who sheds blood and does any of these things ²  mentioned previously

Whoever does not bow down and pay homage will immediately ¹  be thrown into the midst of a furnace of blazing fire!”

But whenever ¹  you enter a town ²  and the people ³  do not welcome ⁴  you, go into its streets ⁵  and say,

But the one who denies me before men will be denied before God’s angels.

Every person ¹  who does not obey that prophet will be destroyed and thus removed ²  from the people.’ ³ 

Also, if anyone competes as an athlete, he will not be crowned as the winner ¹  unless he competes according to the rules. ² 

I wrote something to the church, ¹  but Diotrephes, ²  who loves to be first among them, does not acknowledge us. ³ 

But when I speak with you, I will loosen your tongue ¹  and you must say to them, ‘This is what the sovereign Lord says.’ Those who listen will listen, but the indifferent will refuse, ²  for they are a rebellious house.

‘Cursed is the one who refuses to keep the words of this law.’ Then all the people will say, ‘Amen!’

Any man who rebels against what you say and does not obey all your commands will be executed. ¹  But ²  be strong and brave!”

A poor but wise youth is better than an old and foolish king who no longer knows how to receive advice.

Why do you say, Jacob, Why do you say, Israel, “The Lord is not aware of what is happening to me, ¹  My God is not concerned with my vindication”? ² 

There is no reason why you and your people should die in war ¹  or from starvation or disease! ²  That’s what the Lord says will happen to any nation ³  that will not be subject to the king of Babylon.

Consequently the one who rejects this is not rejecting human authority ¹  but God, who gives his Holy Spirit to you.
